Sergei Podlipaev and his group have been conducting investigations of trypanosomatids in cape Kartesh, Tshupa bay of the White Sea located in Northern Russia near the Polar Circle. This region has been colonized by post-glaciation fauna only 15,000 years ago and thus represents a good testing ground for hypotheses addressing recent evolution, dispersal and host-specificity of trypanosomatids.
